Granville State School is committed to ensuring all of our students have a right to and receive a quality education.
Essential to effective learning is a safe, supportive and disciplined environment that respects the following rights:
- Everyone has the right to feel safe both physically and emotionally
- Everyone has the right to learn
- Staff have the right to teach
As a result, Granville State School has a process aimed at maintaining peaceful, non-violent environments in which children and adults develop positive views of self and of others, learn positive, appropriate ways of relating and are able to cope with challenges in life in positive and appropriate ways.
We encourage all members of the Granville School Community to recognise the roles and responsibilities they have in creating and maintaining our safe, supportive and disciplined environment in which we can all thrive and do our best. Our staff will work with all students to assist them in being successful members of not only our school community but also society as a whole.
We believe that creating a disciplined environment is about far more than just negative consequences for inappropriate behaviour. Our approach reflects our belief that student behaviour is a part of the overall teaching and learning approach in our school. Our staff take responsibility for making their expectations clear, for providing supportive instruction about how to meet these expectations and strive to use behavioural incidents as opportunities to re-teach.
The development of the Granville State School Student Code of Conduct is an opportunity to share and explain our approach with parents/carers and students, and gain their support to implement a consistent approach to teaching behaviour. The language and expectations of our approach can be used in any environment, including the home setting for students. Doing everything we can do to set students up for success is a shared goal of every parent/carer and school staff member.
